What we measure and what we don't
Our Philosophy
No ranking. No judgment. GitHub Signal Arcade isn't about comparing developers or creating leaderboards. It's about understanding what your GitHub profile signals.
We analyze patterns in your public activity to generate a fun, shareable identity—your developer archetype—along with actionable insights to help you level up your profile.
The Five Signals
Consistency
How steady is your activity? We look at update patterns across months to detect steady builders vs. bursty sprinters.
Focus
Do you maintain a few meaningful projects or explore many ideas? We measure the ratio of active vs. abandoned repos.
Maintenance
How well do you keep projects polished? We check for READMEs, licenses, recent updates, and general repo health.
Narrative
Can others understand what you build? We analyze README quality, topics, and how well you tell your project stories.
Collaboration
How much do you work with others? (Estimate only) We use forks and contributions as weak proxies.
Developer Archetypes
Your archetype is derived from your signal strengths—not from ranking against others. Each archetype represents a distinct developer pattern:
The Maintainer
High maintenance + consistency. Keeps projects alive past the hype.
The Silent Builder
High consistency, low narrative. Builds quietly, needs clearer story.
The Prototype Machine
Low focus, generates ideas fast. Needs more finishes.
The Specialist
High focus. Deep investment in a few domains.
The Archivist
High narrative + maintenance. Documents well, shares knowledge.
The Ghost
Very low signals. Profile needs a flagship project.
Data Sources
We use only GitHub's public REST API:
- User profile metadata
- Public repository list (stars, forks, languages, update times)
- Repository metadata (READMEs, licenses, topics)
We don't use: contribution graphs, private repos, or detailed commit history. Results are based on publicly available data only.
Card Rarity
Rarity isn't "better"—it's distinctiveness:

Balanced signals across the board
Rare
One dominant signal
Epic
Two strong dimensions
Legendary
Highly distinctive signature
Limitations
profiler0x0 is not perfect:
- It can't see private repos or internal work
- Collaboration signal is weak (no PR/issue data in MVP)
- New accounts will have low signals (not enough data)
- It's optimized for open-source activity patterns
This is a fun tool, not a comprehensive developer assessment.
